7 tips on how to get a job that makes sense

People tend to feel depressed because of not doing a valuable job. This often leads not only to burnout but also to insufficient results since such a worker lacks motivation for what they do. Usually, a change of the working position doesn´t solve this trouble (unless you completely change your orientation). What is of much greater value is finding sense in what you do. We are about to show you seven useful tips you should know.

Did you know that about 90% of people do a job that they do not enjoy, hence they do not see any sense in it? This is not an overestimated number. However, the change can be quite simple.

1. Try not to pay attention to the fact that your work is repetitive

Routine and repetitive work is sometimes required even on positions which normally don´t lack sense. We can´t do without routine mostly. On the other hand, repetitive work doesn´t necessarily be done automatically. Give a try to some new processes leading to more effective execution, better results or different progress. You will soon witness repetitive work being pretty interesting. In addition, this point of view enables you to find a way to do things in another manner and can result in taking less time. Trying to get better and implement new processes is a key not only for the company success.

2. Gain your supervisor´s respect

Working under a supervisor not believing in you and your qualities is not sustainable in the long term. Our experience shows that this is not an exeptional case. Often, it is not caused by you having little experience or not doing your job well. You might try to show yourself a bit more, get more involved or be proactive. Show your manager that they are mistaken in you. A relatively little change can often bring a lot. Sometimes the cause is you not believing in yourself enough. Do not uselessly doubt what you do unless there is a reason for it.

3. Feel free to delegate unimportant things

A very common problem seems to be agenda being loaded upon you which, however, has no value. This doesn´t necessarily be repetitive work but it is often connected. Mostly professionals in a particular brach bringing the most value to it have to solve tasks which could easily be done by someone much less qualified. This type of work often takes about 20-30% of the working time. Do not hesitate to let your manager know about this. This work can simply be delegated and the whole situation will benefit the company.

4. Try to work as an interim manager instead of HPP

Malfunctioning companies and their structures are a huge trouble. We often face the fact that the problem doesn´t lie in people´s competence but in company´s functioning. For instance, it can take ages to implement new processes, try out innovative trends or just change something. Often, there are useless bureaucratic rounds. If this kind of work tires you, there is no easier thing than giving a try to the job of an interim manager. Companies will hire you because of needing help and will be thankful to you. You will not have to defend anything – your results will.

5. Search for a higher context of your job

Focus on where your job extends. Which other following processes and work couldn´t do without you? Seeing the connections in the extended context can help you change your point of view. Suddenly, a seemingly useless thing is valuable and many others can´t do without it.

6. Get better and step out of your comfort zone

You will stop enjoying your job when there is no other place to get to. If there is nowhere to go in the company structure, i tis high time you tried the job of a consultant, an interim manager. Such a step out of your comfort zone and stable work can enable you to get to new projects worth trying. Moreover, even your financial evaluation will be much higher, even over 100 000 Czech crowns a month. In addition, you will get new experience which you would otherwise be waiting for for ages (or will never get it).

7. Take a rest

Sometimes, just a little restart is enough. Just to take a rest, switch the head off and relax. Go on holiday with people you like the most. Often, a week is enough, and you find out that all was caused by stress and too much workload, and all of a sudden, you again look forward to working. If this doesn´t help, give it a fortnight. Should you not find any sense in your job even after 14 days, try to search for ways to find a better one, actively. The ideal thing is to do what you already know. That´s why we do recommend the job of an interim manager. Get in touch with us and we will show you the options or offer you an interim project straight away. It is really this easy.
